ARMYBASSANGLERS AT BELTON LAKE - HOOAH!
Belton Lake, TX -12 June 2010 would find ArmyBassAngler Pro Ron Seevers fishing the final Bass Champs Central Division tournament solo as his partner, Mike Garrett, was upholding the DEFEND pillar of the ArmyBassAngler Mission at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC), at Fort Polk, LA. The morning started off with a great draw as the number nine boat as Seevers raced to his initial spot.
After about an hour, without a bite, Seevers pulled up the trolling motor and moved north to his second spot. After a few casts to a secondary point, Seevers hooked up with his first keeper of the day, a solid 2 pounder.
After the first fish, Seevers continued to probe points in 15 feet of water, with a Drop shot rigged Lake Fork Trophy Lures Hyper finesse worm. The rig would be credited with all four keepers of the day in 3 different locations. Seevers managed his four fish by 1100 but could not connect with the final keeper.
Seevers then proceeded to the check in point with his four swimmers and off to weigh in, weighing in his four fish for a total of 6.40lbs placing 29th overall for the day out of 166 teams. Seevers said, "I was really a little disappointed on my way to the stage, but after talking to some of the toughest sticks on the Central Trail and hearing how tough their day was, I became pretty proud of my four little squeakers."
The team would go on to finish in a very respectable 22nd place for the season. Ron said, "I am really proud of the year we had, but I really missed Mike on this one, but I understand, after my 24 years of service that mission comes first."
166 Teams would compete for a total payout of $44,700.00. There was a total of 198 fish brought to the scales with 90 zeros for a total weight of 44.87 lbs. The avg fish weighed 2.27 lbs.
